Botswana - Bible teaching and theology training

… our churches also desperately need our leaders to be trained in studying the Bible because we have nowhere to send our people.” — African Independent Church leader

Where social ministry is concerned– and in particular ministry to people living with AIDS – the African Independent Churches (AIC) are said to be ahead of the rest, despite having fewer financial and educational resources.

In Botswana, Mennonites are the only church workers who choose to work alongside the local AICs rather than planting a denominational church. Here, Glyn and Susan Allison Jones work to deliver Bible teaching and theology training seminars that put theological rubber to the suffering road the Batswana people travel every day. One AIC leader said,“… our churches also desperately need our leaders to be trained in studying the Bible because we have nowhere to send our people.” Together, AIC leaders gain biblical proficiency and ministerial capacity to work among and in their own communities.
