Democratic Republic of Congo - Hope for Peace

This past summer, under international eyes, Congo held its first multi-party elections since 1960.

Together with millions of others, almost 200,000 Congolese Mennonites hope and pray that this renewed democratic process will eventually bring peace after a lengthy violent conflict that has been called the world’s deadliest since World War II. The country lies in vast economic and social ruin. Congolese Mennonites believe a lasting peace can be realized through democratic process, education and micro industry development. But teachers are seldom paid, school supplies are scarce, and most students arrive at schools with little or no money. Food is a luxury. Restarting the country’s ruined economy will require capital, business acumen, and perseverance.

We are working with Congolese Mennonites to:

• Train ministers who in turn inspire others to pray, disciple, serve, and lead in transforming a people and a nation
