How are gifts chosen?

Gifts are chosen that help introduce someone to the gospel, build their spiritual strength, and nurture local churches and their leaders.

Who are the gifts given to?

Mennonite Church Canada always seeks first to partner and work with local, indigenous community leaders. Your gift will usually be part of a larger ministry where a number of families or churches receive assistance.

How are the amounts determined?

Value of gifts in this selection are a best calculation of actual costs in a given country. The suggested donations include costs for additional items that families or local leaders require to make good use of the gift. For example, when you give a gift of a safe place for a child, you also provide for training of volunteers and costs for a snack and tutoring.

Are some gifts better than others?

All the gifts have been carefully selected to meet critical needs wherever there are Mennonite Church Canada ministries. Every gift is valuable and we leave it up to you to choose the gift you wish to give. You can also choose to make a non-designated gift which provides the essential funding that allows Mennonite Church Canada to provide basic support for existing ministries, or take our work to new communities.

How many gifts are needed?

Each year Mennonite Church Canada carefully develops a plan for the coming year of ministry. This plan usually involves negotiations with national churches and/or local leaders in which promises for the coming year are made. We invite gifts for these ministries and the promises made to local programs. When funds are received over and above the requested need, the support will be used to either expand the ministry or will be used to support a similar ministry. In cases where a chosen gift is no longer needed and no similar ministry exists, we will contact the donor to suggest alternatives. Contributions over and above the specific need will go to support other life-giving ministries in the same country.
