Learning in Africa

Two hurdles to overcome in Burkina Faso are an adequate supply of French language Christian books and translation of the Bible and teaching materials. The young national Mennonite Church here is growing, especially in the capitol of Ouagadougou, where many Mennonite young adults come from surrounding villages to study. Jeff and Tany Warkentin are providing leadership to Foyer Evangelique Mennonite de Ouagadougou (FEMO), a fledgling congregation of young people in Ouagadougou for whom a library of Christian books is an urgent need.

Jeff writes, “… it was the members of FEMO who loaned their personal resources (books) to the church to get the library started.” A FEMO member has already volunteered to be the librarian. and, “…because the library is in the same building as the student residence, students have committed themselves to helping visitors who wish to use these resources, as well as to being open to the Holy Spirit’s guiding to engage these visitors with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
