A New Generation of Youth

Rebecca Letkeman, from Grace Mennonite Church in Steinbach, Manitoba, attended her first Mennonite Church Canada Youth Assembly in Abbotsford in 2007. “Conferences are really good for letting you feel that you are part of a bigger group…and [for] interacting with other people who are part of the same faith,” she said.

Connecting with others during a youth assembly made her realize the importance of walking a faith journey with other people rather than on her own. “We’re challenged and enriched when we’re with other people.”

Chris Fowler, from Nutana Park Mennonite Church in Saskatoon, also attended his first Youth Assembly in 2007. He found it rewarding to worship and fellowship with so many other youth. “It made me feel more in touch with God.”

Many members of our church can point to a Youth Assembly they attended as a formative experience in their own faith journey. The next Mennonite Church Canada Youth Assembly takes place on July 6-10, 2009 in Caronport, Saskatchewan. Several hundred youth will experience five days of worship, seminars, fellowship and recreation around the theme, “Living Inside Out”, based on Colossians 3:12-17. We don’t want finances to be a barrier for any young person who wants to attend. A bursary fund has been established to assist youth or youth groups whose personal or congregational resources are limited. Give a gift that can inspire faith in a new generation!
