China - “I am a peace builder”

“For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us.” Eph. 2:14

“Students and teachers learning together,” is a Chinese proverb that well describes the English teaching ministry in China. Language teaching and learning are powerful ways of sharing in others’ lives, cultures and histories.

One student said, “As an English learner, I see myself as a peace builder. I am becoming a bridge between two languages and cultures.”

A student of a Mennonite teacher summed up his understanding of his teacher’s motivations this way: “So, if God made all the people in the world and God loves everyone, then you can love others because God loved you first.”

After a Chinese embassy in Belgrade was bombed, one student of a Mennonite teacher put his thoughts into a letter to the editor of a national newspaper: “I don’t know about others, but my Western teacher and I are friends. I can see in our relationship that there is hope for peace.”
